Dear Friends

Grateful to share that recently we completed a survey to check has implemented ROI process. The reality is ROI is not even a considered. Many of the companies do not even have the data.

Companies studied - 41 large scale companies, multinational companies, public sector undertakings, private companies.

Out of these 16 companies have sent their HR / training personnel to uprade their skills in the ROI area,

The objectives of the study are
  •        To understand the extent to which participants who upgraded their ROI skills were able to implement the ROI process in their company.
  • .      Identify the barriers and enablers to implement the ROI process.
  • .      Recommendations to make HR and training a profit center.

Beyond ROI - Go with the FLOW

Dear Friends

Last week's my blog on 'Can we get ROI on Yoga' got tremendous response...Few were not willing to believe...

I understand your apprehensions as we have doubts whether ROI can be calculated on soft skills...

My answer is YES. You can calculate ROI on all types of training, provided you intend too.

My today's blog focuses on, 'Is everything restricted to ROI'. I feel there is something beyond.

Yesterday's day demonstrated that there is something beyond ROI. The international Yoga  day was celebrated across the world.

At Marine drive (Mumbai), huge crowd participated in the Yoga celebrations. The only other day when marine drive is so crowded and in a joyous mood, is the Mumbai Marathon...

The spirit, the entusism, the energy surpassed any number of monetary returns.

As Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wrote in his book 'Flow' that Flow- is the secret to happiness...

And yesterday's day was a proof to the secret of happiness...People were looking inwards, no complains, no jealousy, no blame game...

Go with the Flow and and enjoy the ROI...

As Lord Krishna said
'Karmanye Vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana,
Ma Karmaphalaheturbhurma, Te Sangostvakarmani'.

Enjoy...

Can we get ROI on Yoga?

Dear Friends...

21st June, 2015 is announced as International Yoga Day (IYD). I am associated with Kaivalyadham Yog Center, Mumbai...

During one of the lecture sessions, I met a lady. When she came to know I am a ROI specialist, she asked, can we calulate ROI on Yoga training that we do in corporates?

Why not? I said...

She further questioned but yoga is a part of well being intitiaves that companies undertake.

I replied any kind of interventions that HR does can be brought under ROI process...

I gave her the objective setting for the ROI process...

Reaction level
s    Value added to the job.
s    Importance of the workshop to the job success.
s    Intent to use concepts learnt in the workshop.

s    Recommend to others.
Learning level
s    Identify the weakness and strengths of self.
s    Write the steps to create an effective Yoga environment.
s    Write the importance of health benefits of Yoga.
s    Dos and Don'ts in Yoga.
s    Demonstrate the yoga asanas.
s    Demonstrate the pranayam techniques.

s    Confidence to apply the concepts learnt.
Application level
s    Complete personal development plan within 2 months.
s    Do yoga and meditation every alternate day for one year.
      s    Complete action plan.
s    Choose the right food for balanced diet within one month.
s    Create a stress free environment at home and work within 10 days.
s    Identify the barriers and enablers to application.
Business Impact
s    Decrease stress level by 10%.
s    Reduce medical bills by 20%.
s    Increased productivity.
s    Increase in fitness levels.
s    Reduce anxiety and fear.
s    Increase in self confidence.

She was surprised that Level wise objectives can be set for Yoga training too...

I also mentioned that just doing yoga is one part of it. It needs to be followed by eating healthy food and maintaining a discipline to have practice Yoga regularly...Only then can you reap long term benefits.

Have a healthy life...
Love

We All Have Choices...

Dear Friends

Today I thought of taking a break from my regular writing on ROI blogs...One of my colleague suggested me to write on 'choices' people have....

COMPLAINTS..COMPLAINTS COMPLAINTS....

That is what we all hear ....The list is endless
  1. Boss never listens. He is biased.
  2. I am broke.
  3. Too much of traffic every where.
  4. Now-a-days children are not bothered.
  5. Train is always late.
  6. Flights are always delayed.
  7. It is very hot....
So on and so forth endless complaints...

In my coaching sessions when the audinece complaints about something...I remind them that they have a CHOICE.

"Choice, how do I have a choice?" they ask. "I have no choice if my boss doesn't listen".

Ofcourse you have..provided you know you have one. Best thing if you really donot like your boss or like the company, you have a choice to  leave that company. Remember the similar situation may repeat in other companies also..so better exercise your choices.

So what are the choices we have

FOR ANY SITUATION, A PERSON HAS INFINITE POSSIBILITIES AND CHOICES TO MAKE, PROVIDED HE/SHE WANTS TO EXERCISE THOSE CHOICES...then things are easy

Situation                                                                                      Choice
  1. Boss never listens. He is biased.               To leave the company, can you?
  2. I am broke.                                                Explore possibilities to earn more, can  you?
  3. Too much of traffic every where.              Go and stay where traffic is less, can you?
  4. Now-a-days children are not bothered.     Live your own life not of children, can you?
  5. Train is always late.                                   Atleast you have resources. Catch the next                                                                                    train, can you?
  6. Flights are always delayed.                       Explore the airport, read something, talk                                                                                        to fellow passengers. Atleast you have                                                                                            resources which you can use, can you?
  7. How hot it is....                                          Go and stay in cold climate...can you? We                                                                                     are responsible for global warming.

So instead of being dragged in the negativity of emotions such as complaint, get angry, frustrated, blame others, irritated, jealous, worry, tension, resentment, guilt, judgemental, greed, helplessness, and getting stressed, why not go with the flow and explore the possibilities of CHOICES...and be 100% responsible for our life...

Are you willing to explore???

Will You Pay to be A Speaker?

Dear Friends

A couple of days back I received a call from the CLO summit organizers. A CLO summit is going to be held in Mumbai in the month of September 2015.

The lady on the phone informed me that they would love me to be their speaker on ROI subject provided,  I SPONSOR OR PAY to SPEAK. She also mentioned that this is a good way of marketing yourself (when I had not asked).

Pay? I was shocked. I was aware that people pay to get speaking opportunity, but I least expected to get a call from them. Especially when I did not even apply for a paid opportunity.

Though I was very happy that ROI is been considered as a topic for the summit, I equally was disappointed for this pay to speak opportunity. She further stated that 90% people who speak in the summit are from corporates are invited guest speakers, and the remaining 10% were from consulting experience who are generally paid speakers.

And because I came from consulting background I need to pay. I am sure many would be willing to take this opportunity.

Of course! I politely declined.

The mere thought that I need to pay to share my knowledge and expertise in the ROI subject especially for the CLO summit was not acceptable to me.

I realized a couple of things when you are asking for sponsorship

1.  Are we really interested in sharing knowledge or we just want to market ourselves.
2.  I would have been more than happy to share my knowledge had they invited me as a guest speaker.
3.  Inspite of this being a CLO summit, though it is the need of the hour, ROI is still neglected issue.
4.  Are these summits a marketing platforms instead of knowledge sharing and HR people meeting and learning from each other.

Yes everyone has a choice and I choose mine.

What would have been your choice...

Grateful to all...Make my dream come true

Dear Friends

So much grateful to all of you to make my dream come true. Finally my book on ROI titled "ROI Matters" is complete.

It has been long since I have written any thing on my blog. I had been in hibernation completing my book.

Now I know why writing technical book is tough compared to writing a fictional book.

Now I will start writing the blog again. Want to share my experience with you all. In the mean time it is good to see that many PSUs and Pvt. companies are coming out of the shell and want to implement the ROI process. HR people want to take ROI process as their KRA.

Did a few  ROI projects with companies this year. Glad that we got the results. Doing end-to-end ROI study in India has its own challenges. Only when I worked with the companies on the ROI aspect, did I come to know how challenging it for the HR department to convince the management on this ROI process. Some how management lacks the trust that needs to be there in their HR team or there could be many other reasons.

Grateful to all those people who helped me put the ROI process in their companies. Grateful to all those people from all streams, who helped me with the data and the financial inputs....

Grateful to all those who made my dream a reality...

Do write to me on wagle.sonali@gmail.com and share your experience.

Best
Sonali
